 I have several programs I use to assist me in cleaning up after the various malware / rogue antivirus programs and spyware infestations I repair. One I had heard of but never used was SUPERAntiSpyware, until recently.

My previous go to malware scanner was Malwarebyes.org. It was/is a great program to have installed and it does a good job of locating things and removing them for do-IT-yourself’ers as well as computer techs. However, recent attempts to monetize their free version via CNET download pages with confusing “Download Now” images made it hard for me to direct customers to download it over the phone. (Note: Click the big green bar to actually download it.. confusing right?)

So, after reading some reviews and kudo’s from my peers over at DSLreports about SUPERAntiSpyware I decided it give it a try. What a pleasant surprise!  Their home page has links to their various FREE and Paid editions, and the file comes from them direct. The scanner picks up things malwarebytes chooses to leave behind and while a bit overwhelming initially, the interface is easy to use. I was also pleasantly surprised at the throughness of the clean-up and the amount of information it gave me.

The FREE Edition is great if you just need to clean up some remnants of an infection or to use as a “second opinion” but if you have had to pay to get your PC cleaned more than once, I suggest you purchase SUPERAntiSpyware for it’s “Real Time” protection. Anti-Virus program such as Microsoft Security Essentials is great for catching trojans and virus software… but these days it’s spyware and rogue anti-virus programs that are making the rounds and that’s exactly what SUPERAntiSpyware takes care of.
