Calibrate XBOX 360 HDMI settings

Set X360′s resolution to AUTO (720p or 1080P), reference level to standard and HDMI color space to YCbCr709.

Download all the images from this link and transfer them on an optical media (in DATA format) or onto a USB flash memory. View each image in full screen so that you can compare the level of improvement after calibration.

Before proceeding, make sure to set the color temperature to warm, disable all image enhancing features and light sensor.
(this is a great time to get out your LCD panel/Television/Projectors user manual for specifics)

Backlight (If Available):

It is recommended that the backlight should be set to less than half the total value. So if the backlight value ranges from 0 – 10, it should be set to 5 or below.

Brightness (Black Level):

Make the room dark as possible. Display the black image labeled  NEC Black and lower the brightness level to 25%, then slowly increase the value until you start to see a change in black level. Once you’ve found it, double check to see if it’s accurate. You can do that by increasing the value by one and decreasing the value by one. When you increase, the black level should change, when you decrease, it shouldn’t.

Color (Saturation of the Primary Colors):

View the image labeled Color Chart. Set color to maximum and rapidly decrease while focusing on the red color. Make a mental note at the point where it begins to de-saturate. Increase the color level to that point and fine tune it. For example, if the change occurred at 45, increase the color level to 55 and slowly lower it until you see the change, then fine tune it using the method above.

Contrast (White Level):

Display the image labeled as Colored Contrast on the X360. Notice how the subtle details in the highlighted area vanish as you increase the contrast level.

Now display the image labeled Red 1 and focus on the wires on the fence. Increase the contrast to maximum and slowly lower it until you can see all the wiring.

Display the image labeled Aeon. If the image appears unnatural and needs more luminance, find the sweet spot by carefully configuring the backlight, contrast and color.

Sharpness (Edge Enhancement):

Ideally sharpness should be set 0 or half the total value. But that’s not always the case. If the images appears soft when set to 0, you’ll have to find the sweet spot. On the X360, select My Xbox. Focus on the small texts found near the bottom of each channel while increasing the sharpness. Notice how the small texts appear unreadable and have halos around them. Now lower the sharpness until they are free from all artifacts and can be read effortlessly.

After calibration, display all the images to see the level of improvement.
